‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ set for television premiere on Channel i
Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s critically acclaimed film “Rehana Maryam Noor” is set to have its world television premiere on Channel i tomorrow (October 1), as part of the channel’s 28th anniversary celebrations.
The film will be broadcast at 3:05pm on Channel i, according to the channel’s programme department. The premiere is part of a three-day line-up of special programmes marking the channel’s 28th year.
Channel i, which began commercial broadcasting on October 1, 1999, is entering its 28th year with the slogan “Shotto Shundor Prokashe, Channel i Atashe”.
“Rehana Maryam Noor” made history in 2021 as the first Bangladeshi film selected for the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. The film was part of the official selection of the 74th edition of the festival, where it had its world premiere in July that year.
Directed and written by Saad, the film centres on Rehana Maryam Noor, an assistant professor at a medical college whose life begins to unravel after she witnesses a student leaving a professor’s office in distress. She subsequently takes a stand for her student while also dealing with difficulties involving her young daughter.
Following its Cannes premiere, “Rehana Maryam Noor” went on to screen at several international festivals, including the Melbourne International Film Festival and Busan International Film Festival. The film also received international recognition, with Saad winning the Jury Grand Prize and Badhan receiving the Best Performance by an Actress award at the 2021 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
The film’s television premiere will form part of Channel i’s anniversary-day programming, alongside a series of special shows and live events throughout October 1.
