D’Angelo and Angie Stone’s son to play Notorious B.I.G. in Snoop Dogg biopic

Universal’s upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic has expanded its cast, with SwayvoTwain, the son of late musicians D’Angelo and Angie Stone, set to portray the Notorious B.I.G.

The film, titled “Snoop”, will star Jonathan Daviss as Snoop Dogg and is being billed as a definitive account of the rapper and entertainment mogul’s life.

SwayvoTwain, born Michael D’Angelo Archer II, is a recording artiste, songwriter and performer. “Snoop” will mark his first major film role. His recent music includes “DoveSoar” and “Ms. Angie’s Son”, works that reflect the musical influence of his parents.

Christopher Wallace, better known as the Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie, emerged as one of the most influential hip-hop artistes of the 1990s. Although Snoop was signed to West Coast label Death Row Records while Biggie became a leading figure in East Coast hip-hop, the two rappers shared mutual respect.

The biopic has also cast Bentley Green as rapper RBX and G Perico as Big Reecie Cup, both figures connected to Snoop’s early career and Long Beach roots.

They join an ensemble that includes Myles Bullock as Dr Dre, Lauren London as Snoop’s late mother Beverly Tate, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, Algee Smith as Warren G, Tre Hale as Suge Knight and Laya DeLeon Hayes as Snoop’s wife Shante Broadus. Olly Sholotan will portray Kurupt, Corey Champagne will play Nate Dogg and Jonica Booth will appear as The Lady of Rage.

Craig Brewer, known for “Hustle & Flow”, is directing the film from his rewrite of a screenplay originally written by Joe Robert Cole. Universal has scheduled “Snoop” for theatrical release on August 6, 2027.

Snoop Dogg is producing the biopic alongside Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum, as well as Death Row Pictures President Sara Ramaker. The film is expected to feature music from Snoop’s extensive catalogue.
