Waterways strike on

Sunamganj Water Transport Workers' Cooperative Association went on an indefinite strike from November 10, protesting rampant extortion and attacks on its workers.

Plying of nearly 200 stone and sand carrying boats, locally known as bulkheads, and passenger trawlers have been kept suspended since the strike was called.

They also staged demonstrations at Abua river terminal demanding trial of the culprits who beat up six workers--Salam, Altaf, Arif, Sayeed, Monir and Raju--on November 9.
