‘Violence against female children increases alarmingly’

National Girl Child Advocacy Forum and Child Rights Advocacy Coalition in Bangladesh claimed that the incidents like rape and physical abuse of female children are increasing alarmingly in Dhaka as well as across the country.

Expressing strong condemnation to the incidents, the rights bodies also demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits, according to a press release floated for media today.

Citing some recent rape incidents in Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Chandpur, Sylhet and Dhaka, the press statement mentioned that the trend of torture on female children took an inhuman turn in the country as the rapists are not being punished.

The trial process of the girl children torture cases takes a long time, which is a major predicament to ensure justice for the victims, the statement added.

The government should set up speedy trial tribunals to try the rapists and torturers to put an end to the recurrence of the similar offences, said Nasima Akter Joly, secretary of National Girl Child Advocacy Forum, in the statement.
