Villagers suffer for damaged road

Over 10,000 people of 14 villages in Sadar upazila of the district have been suffering much since Farabari-Puratan-Thakurgaon road was damaged badly due to heavy downpour during the last rainy season.  

It is the only link road connecting Akcha Union Parishad (UP) complex and different educational institutions. 

Students of different schools and colleges who have to use the road regularly to attend classes are the worst sufferers.  

During a recent visit, this correspondent found that the middle of the road was damaged badly.

Vehicles even, rickshaw-vans could not cross the damaged portion.

Md Farukh Islam, 28, of Bamonpara village, said the road was damaged about two months ago due to heavy rain.

After the road got damaged, the students have to go to their educational institutions on foot as rickshaw-van and battery-run auto-bike could not ply the road, he said.

Upazila Parishad engineer Md Nuruzzaman Sardar said they have written to the higher authorities for fund to reconstruct the road but to no effect yet.
