‘Robber’ beaten dead by mob in Jhalakathi

A suspected robber was beaten to death by a mob at Bil Shonautha village in Kathalia upazila of Jhalakathi early today.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

A gang of robbers, numbering 15 to 16 swooped on the house of one Forkan Khan and looted valuables after keeping Forkan's family members hostages at gunpoint around 2:30am, said Jashim, a sub-inspector of Kathalia Police Station.

Hearing hue and cry, local people rushed in and chased the robbers. At one stage, they caught one robber while the others managed to flee the scene.

He was beaten dead by the mob on the spot, SI Jashim said.

On information, police rushed there and sent the body to local hospital morgue for autopsy.
