Police in dilemma over challenged girl
A rescued hearing and speech impaired girl, now kept in safe custody in Dimla Police Station under the district, has become a matter of concern for the authorities as the abnormally behaving girl cannot tell her identity.
People of Doholpara Bazar of the upazila found the girl, aged about 18 to 20 years, moving aimlessly in the area for the last couple of days, police quoted the locals as saying.
For the sake of her safety, locals handed her over to Dimla Police Station on Sunday afternoon.
"The girl cannot hear or speak. We can't understand her gestures either. And so, it is very difficult to know her identity," said Sub-inspector Md Sayed of the police station.
"The girl often gets restless and tries to run away from the police station. She cries loudly and sometimes scuffles with two policewomen engaged to guard her.
"We are actually in trouble as the impaired girl does not want to remain in lock-up. We can't allow her to move freely on the compound too as she tries to flee away," he added.
Police are making preparation to make an announcement over loudspeakers shortly, the SI said.
Officer-in-charge Moazzem Hossain of the police station said, along with attempt to confirm her identity, we are also taking steps to send her to a safe home.
