Dyke construction demanded

Hundreds of erosion victims of eight villages in Kawkhali upazila formed a human chain on boats on Sandha River yesterday, demanding construction of a dyke to stop onslaught of the river. Organised by the people of Paul community of Sonakur village hundreds of people from Badamtala, Subidpur, Chirapara, Meghpal, Gandharbo, Ashoya and Raghunathpur villages joined the programme from 10:00am. The speakers said several important structures and establishments including schools, madrasas, mosques, Amrajhuri union parishad building and Kawkhali Food Warehouse are facing the threat of erosion by the river.
