Cop app helps foil child marriage
A Class VI girl was saved from marriage at Baragaon Modhyapara village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila on Sunday, thanks to the prompt police action following a message sent through recently launched mobile app "BD Police Help Line".
Tasli Begum, 12, daughter of Abdur Razzak of the village, was set to be married with Abu Hossain, 24, of Ruhea village on Sunday night, said Additional Superintendent of Police Dewan Lalon Ahmed.
"As someone sent the message to the cell phone of the Sadar Police Station OC at 8:09pm, a police team went there and foiled the underage marriage bid.
"This is the first police drive in Thakurgaon following a message through the app that people can use to directly inform the OC of any crime anonymously, and send photos, videos, and audios related to the crime," Dewan Lalon said.
Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque inaugurated the service titled "BD Police Help Line" in the police headquarters in the capital on Thursday.
Accordingly, officers in charge of six police stations in Thakurgaon district have activated the mobile app to ensure better service for the people by using information technology, said Additional SP Dewan Lalon.
