Child marriage bid foiled

A teenage girl was saved from early marriage at Parampasha under Nalchity upazila of the district on Wednesday night.

The girl, Nargis Akhtar (13), daughter of Md Rafiqul Islam of Parampasha, is a Class X student of Nandi Kathi High School in the upazila.

Nargis was going to be married with Rasel, son of Sekender Ali of Anurag under the upazila, said Sub-inspector Jakir Hossen of Nalchity Police Station.

Informed, a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Masuma Akhtar, went to the spot and foiled the marriage.

The court detained four people, including the marriage registrar Abul Bashar and the bridegroom, and fined them Tk 1,000 each.
