One year into the construction, a bridge over Jaramnadi canal in Sundarganj upazila under the district has yet to become usable due to lack of connecting roads.

Disaster management ministry allocated Tk 26 lakh for the construction of the 65-foot-long bridge over the canal at Jaramnadi village to ease communication of the people of seven villages and the bridge was completed in September last year.

But no connecting road was constructed due to fund constraint and people have to cross the canal by boat in the rainy season, much to the problem of people, especially in case of transporting heavy goods.

"We are uncertain when the road will be constructed to make the bridge usable," said Delwar Hossain, a teacher of Jaramnadi village.

"No allocation has been made for the construction of connecting road. We have already informed the higher authorities of the matter and work will be started as soon as the fund is available," said Nurunnabi Sarker, project implementation officer of Sundarganj upazila.
