Aman seedbeds poisoned
Rivals destroyed aman seedbeds on one acre of land by pouring poison at Taktabunia village in Amtali upazila of Barguna due to enmity with the owner.
Local people discovered it when the seeds became discoloured on Tuesday, said land owner Kabir Mallik.
Family and local sources said Kabir prepared the aman seedbeds on the land that he inherited from his father.
In June, one Kulsum Begum, aunt of Raju Hawlader, neighbour of Kabir, filed a case with a court in the district, claiming ownership of the land.
Raju, his brother Alamgir Hawlader and their men destroyed the seedbeds due to enmity, alleged Kabir.
Md Nazrul Islam Sikder, member of Holdia Union Parishad, said a local gang destroyed the aman seedbeds.
Refuting the allegation, Alamgir said Kabir planned to file a case, accusing them on the issue as a case has been filed with the court over ownership of the land. Kabir himself poured poison on the land, he said.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Badrul Alam said the aman seeds became unfit due to the poison.
Pullok Chandra Roy, officer-in-charge of Amtali Police Station, said they would take steps after proper investigation.
