For 30-decimal land

Neighbours blamed for setting up sand extracting machine to cause collapse of a bamboo cluster

In connection with rivalry between two neighbouring families over 30 decimals of land, a big bamboo cluster on the land was made to collapse in Jaldhaka upazila of the district on Monday.

Owner of bamboo cluster Zikrul Islam of Gopaljhar village alleged that he had a longstanding feud with neighbour Ismail Hossain and his brothers Mahmubur Rahman and Ashraful Islam over the land.

"As I have genuine document of the land, the three siblings failed to carry out their evil designs to occupy the land," he said.

Finding no way, the rivals set up a machine in their water body beside the land two weeks ago and started lifting sand from there.

As a result, the land around the water body, including the bamboo cluster, became vulnerable to subsidence, said Zikrul.

He then informed the local union parishad leaders about the matter. Later, a village attribution was held on the issue but failed to come to a solution.

Finally, the bamboo cluster collapsed in the water body on Monday night.

Refuting the allegation, Ismail Hossain said he extracted sand from his own land and it is his right.

"I should not be blamed for collapse of the bamboo cluster," he added.

A case was filed in this connection, said Zahirul Islam, sub-inspector of Jaldhaka Police Station.
