11 newsmen sued for 'defamation'

A lawyer has filed two cases against eleven newsmen of different regional newspapers and online portals with senior judicial magistrate court in Kalapara upazila town, accusing the defamation.

In the cases, one filed against seven journalists on Sunday and another against four others on Monday, Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Anisur Rahman asked the officer in charge (OC) of Kalapara Police Station to take lawful action after proper investigation, said OC GM Shah Newaz.

According to the case filed by lawyer Jalal Uddin Talukder, the accused published news in their media, terming him 'communal' and he filed a Tk five lakh defamation suit against each.

Mejbah Uddin Mannu, president of Kalapara Press Club, said the two cases are false and those were filed to harass the journalists.
