Council approval must for university degree
The cabinet today approved a draft law with a provision that no university would be able to offer certificates without the approval of a council to be formed by the government.
The approval of the draft of Bangladesh Accreditation Council Act-2016 came at a weekly cabinet meeting at the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
A chairman will lead the 13-member council, cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam briefed reporters after the meeting.
The accreditation of an educational institution will be scrapped if it misinforms or conceals information from the council, according to the law.
Meanwhile, the drafts of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority Act 2016, ICDDR.B Act 2016, and Bangladesh Nuclear Agriculture Institute Act were also approved during the meeting.
The meeting also approved a proposal for a treaty with the government of Myanmar on the demarcation of the land section of the boundary to the north of Naf river and a draft of a proposal for a bilateral treaty with the government of China.
