Pro-Jamaat lawyer 'held by lawmen'

A pro-Jamaat lawyer was picked up by law enforcers from a bus on the way to his village home in Sirajganj from Dhaka on October 22, claimed the family.

Mahmudur Rahman said his younger brother Asad Uddin was detained by plainclothes police at Koddar Mor around 2:00am.

Asad is now in the custody of the Detective Branch of police, he further claimed.

Talking to The Daily Star, Deputy Commissioner of DB Muntasirul Islam, however, could not confirm whether the lawyer was picked up.

Meanwhile, the Jamaat-backed lawyers who are defending alleged war criminals, in a statement condemned the "detention" and demanded immediate "release" of him.
