Shakib Khan is set to return to the big screen this December with “Soldier”, a new film directed by debutant filmmaker Sakib Fahad. The superstar confirmed the news in a recent interview from the United States, where he has been vacationing for over a month with actress Shabnam Bubly and their son Shehzad Khan Bir.

Rumours have been swirling on social media suggesting that Shakib Khan’s upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr release draws inspiration from the life of infamous 1990s Dhaka gangster Kala Jahangir. However, the filmmakers have categorically dismissed the speculation.

Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan has officially signed on for a new film slated for release during next year’s Eid-ul-Fitr. The film will be directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud, though the title has yet to be finalised.

“Bangla cinema is now reaching audiences across the globe with honour. At a time when our films are doing well, a vested quarter has launched a conspiracy to destroy this progress. The films that are performing well are being targeted for piracy. I would say, this is not just a conspiracy against our cinema—it’s a conspiracy against the country,” said Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan.

After a long hiatus, Shakib Khan and Jaya Ahsan have reunited on screen for the film “Taandob”, which has become a talking point since its release this Eid-ul-Azha. Ahead of the film’s premiere, Jaya praised Shakib during a press conference, and once again, in a recent interview with Kolkata-based daily Anandabazar, the actress lauded the Dhallywood star.

Amid the box‑office success, reports emerged that an HD copy of “Taandob” had been leaked on YouTube and other platforms. In response, the production company adopted a hard line. The producer, Shahriar Shakil, filed a complaint with the police seeking legal action under copyright legislation, and detectives have now arrested three suspects in connection with the piracy. At around 11:45 am today (Wednesday), Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) Joint Commissioner Nasirul Islam confirmed the arrests to Prothom Alo.

Six films were released across cinemas in Bangladesh this Eid. Among them, “Taandob”, starring Shakib Khan and directed by Raihan Rafi, has led the charts from Eid day through the fifth day of the holiday. The film was released in 133 theatres nationwide, with midnight screenings (12am–3am) running in venues such as Chhaya Bani in Mymensingh, Rajtilok in Rajshahi, and Modhubon Cineplex in Bogura.

Once a sweetheart of television, Sabila Nur has hit the bullseye with her silver-screen debut with a leading role opposite Shakib Khan in “Taandob”. The film will go down in Bangladesh’s cinematic history for being rife with action, twists, and cameos.

In light of this overwhelming local demand, the film is now set for overseas audiences. Starting today, the film will begin screening across more than 50 cinemas in Europe, America, and Canada in a phased schedule. Notably, the overseas distribution is being managed by BiosKope Films.

Superstar Shakib Khan has returned the Tk 65 lakh government grant allocated for his long-stalled film, “Maya”. The project, which was greenlit under the 2021–22 fiscal year’s government funding scheme, failed to begin production even after three years, drawing widespread criticism and raising questions about the use of public funds in the entertainment sector.
