Rahmatganj taste first victory; Police beat Muktijoddha
A brace from Philip Adjah helped Rahmatganj MFS taste their first victory in the Bangladesh Premier League with an emphatic 3-1 win over Uttar Baridhara Club at the Sylhet District Stadium today.
Despite finishing as runners-up in the Federation Cup earlier this year, Rahmatganj have been struggling in the professional football league, having secured only one point from five matches prior to today's match.
The Old Dhaka outfit finally shrugged off their poor performance to notch up the first victory to climb up to the ninth position of the 12-team table. Baridhara, on the other hand, slipped to the tenth position with identical four points from six matches.
Rahmatganj, who came into the match on the back of a fighting 3-2 loss against holders Bashundhara Kings, took the lead in the 32nd minute with a strike from Ghanaian forward Adjah before Baridhara's Uzbek Yevgenly Kochnew hit back to equalise in the 41st minute. Adjah then went on to restore the lead for the home side at the stroke of half time.
After resumption, Baridhara pressed hard for the equaliser but Rahmatganj sealed the fate of the game in their favour with Enamul Islam scoring the team's third goal in the 75th minute. Rahmatganj have now won three out of five times against Baridhara in the professional football league.
Meanwhile, at the Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium in Rajshahi, Bangladesh Police registered their second victory by handing a single-goal defeat to struggling Muktijoddha Sangsad KC with Adil Kouskous striking the decisive goal in the 44th minute.
With their second victory in six matches, Police moved up to the seventh position with eight points, one more than big-budget Sheikh Russel KC while Muktijoddha remain glued to the bottom, with three points from six matches.
