Kings register second win on the trot

Defending champions Bashundhara Kings registered their second successive victory in the Bangladesh Premier League as they beat newcomers Fortis FC 2-0 at the Shaheed Smriti Stadium in Rajshahi yesterday.

Coming into the match on the back of an emphatic 3-0 win over Azampur FC Uttara, Kings faced some challenges from Fortis FC. After a sound defensive display by Fortis FC for 45 minutes, Brazilian forward Miguel Ferreira, availing a square pass from compatriot Robson De Silva, gave Kings the lead with a left-footed shot from outside the box two minutes into the first-half stoppage time.

After resumption, the charges of Oscar Bruzon kept things in control in the midfield and launched attacks through the flanks. The tactic worked as a powerful low cross from winger Rakibul Hossain from the right flank forced an error from Fortis defender Ariful Islam, who slid it into his own net. The goal meant there were no more surprises in store for the newcomers after their creditable 1-1 draw against six-time champions Abahani in the first match.

Meanwhile, title contenders Sheikh Jamal DC handed a 3-2 defeat to hosts Muktijoddha Sangsad at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj following their 2-2 draw against Rahmatganj MFS in their first match.

Former champions Sheikh Russel KC also got their first victory in a 4-2 win over hosts Chittagong Abahani at the Shaheed Birshreshtha Shaheed Flight Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
