Airport closed, Bangladesh football team confined to Kathmandu hotel

By Star Sports Report

Bangladesh football team have remained confined to Crowne Imperial hotel in Kathmandu as their 3:00pm flight to Dhaka was cancelled owing to the closure of the Tribhuvan International Airport in the wake of escalating violence in Nepal.

The Bangladesh team were originally scheduled to return to the country on Wednesday, but the second and final FIFA friendly match against Nepal was called off following Monday's violence, which claimed at least 19 lives.

The Bangladesh Football federation managed to bring the scheduled flight from Wednesday to Tuesday in light of the worsening situation. The schdeuled flight for today was BG 0372 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The players and coaching staff were all ready to check out and leave for the airport, but weren't allowed by the Nepalese authorities as the security situation in the Nepalese capital worsened, forcing the closure of the country's main airport.

It remains uncertain when the team can return to the country as the situation in the Himalayan nation is rapidly evolving, with latest reports suggesting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has already resigned.
