Miraz released from hospital as Tigers stay unchanged for 3rd Australia ODI
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not taken any chances with ODI skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was sent to hospital on Thursday for check-ups after the end of the second and penultimate ODI against Australia, which the Tigers won by five wickets via DLS method to clinch a landmark series win.
Miraz was hit on the helmet by a bouncer, and the all-rounder looked uneasy for a while, leading to suggestions that he was going to be subbed off for concussion. However, following an uncomfortable period, Miraz got up and batted again, notching a six to take the Tigers over the ropes during a run-a-ball 22.
He and Tawhid Hridoy, who scored 40 off 55, strung together an unbeaten 51-run stand to take Bangladesh through to the win during a nervy ending.
Miraz had two scans, and the results have been good. “He is comfortable at the moment,” a BCB official informed.
There are some doubts over Miraz participating in practice on Saturday, but both his scan reports have come out okay, the BCB said in a video message.
“He was under observation for almost 12 hours at Evercare,” team operations manager Nafees Iqbal said in a video message released by the BCB on Friday. “As you know, he received a blow to the head from a bouncer and vomited, which was a bit concerning. But he continued playing and, immediately after the match, BCB doctors and the physio collectively decided he had to be sent to Evercare, even though he was feeling better. He underwent a scan, and the report of the first scan was good.
“Today, he underwent a second scan, and since the report has come out good, he has been released from the hospital. I am not sure about practice tomorrow, but definitely our doctors and physio will be in communication with him regarding availability.”
Meanwhile, chief selector Habibul Bashar confirmed that there are no changes to the squad for the third ODI. Asked about Miraz’s availability, the chief selector said the selection panel expect Miraz to recover in time, since the scan reports have been good.
