Mashrafe a doubt for WI?
There is some uncertainty over whether Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will be able to join the Tigers for the upcoming three-match ODI series in the West Indies from July 22 as his wife Sumona Haque's is seriously ill.
Mashrafe, along with the other members of the one-day side, was supposed to fly on July 13 for the Caribbean, where the Tigers will also play a warm-up game on July 19 in Jamaica.
Sumona, who was diagnosed with bacteria in her blood, was also admitted to hospital a few days back and Mashrafe had already informed Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan about the situation.
"Mashrafe's wife is sick, so we have to take the matter into consideration over his participation in the ODI series against West Indies. If he is unable to go, we might think of an alternative," chief selector Minhajul Abedin told reporters yesterday.
Meanwhile, Minhajul also informed that the team management is planning to send back pacer Rubel Hossain -- currently in the Test squad -- ahead of the ODI series. Rubel was also a part of the 16-member ODI squad.
"Earlier, we thought that keeping an extra bowler in the squad will provide some options but at the moment there is no need, so we have decided to bring Rubel back before the ODI series," he said.
It was learned that Rubel has suffered an injury to his right leg and Minhajul also added that they are also considering sending another pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, ahead of the ODI series.
Mustafizur, who is recovering from a toe injury, is playing the third four-day game for Bangladesh A against Sri Lanka A in Sylhet where he bowled 4.4 overs and also picked up a wicket yesterday.
