The appointment came following a decision of the executive committee of the organisation, says a press release.

Tahmina has over three decades of significant contributions at both national and international levels in the fields of human rights, women’s rights, freedom of expression, right to information, and digital rights, it added.

She previously served as the general secretary of the Executive Committee of ASK (2019-2020).

She served for a long time as the regional director of Article 19 Bangladesh and South Asia, where she played an important role in programme development, policy formulation, and implementation.

She is also a member of the board of trustees of the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST).

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to human rights, she was awarded the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by the United Kingdom in 2017.

She also received the prestigious Franco-German Prize in 2016 for her contributions to human rights and the rule of law.
