Savar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Saiful Islam announced today that the government has taken an initiative to construct a multi‑storey building, including a market, at the Rana Plaza site for the rehabilitation of workers affected by the 2013 tragedy.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “April 24 is a day of mourning for the entire nation. On this day, the Rana Plaza building collapsed, leaving many workers dead, missing, and injured.”

He noted that victims and their families frequently stage protests at the site, demanding rehabilitation.

The UNO explained that higher authorities had inquired about the condition of the land, including whether it had been encroached upon. He confirmed there were no legal complications.

He added that the authorities have indicated plans to rehabilitate affected workers through development of the site. “The plan may include constructing a market or a multi‑storey building with both commercial and residential facilities. Such planning has already been undertaken by the relevant ministry. We hope it will be implemented soon,” he said.

“In fact, there is no complication regarding the land. The honourable court has ruled that the land will remain under the control of the deputy commissioner. At present, the administration is overseeing and maintaining the site,” he said.
