City Bank agent shot dead in Meherpur; Tk 46 lakh looted

Hijackers shot a City Bank agent to death and snatched 46 lakh from him in Gangni upazila of Meherpur today.

Deceased Khademul Islam (35) hailed from Jatarpur village in Meherpur, reports our Kushtia correspondent quoting police.

"Khademul was going to the bank booth at Gangni upazila town on a motorcycle with Tk 46 lakh in his bag this morning," said Officer-in-Charge of Gangni Police Station (investigation) Sajedul Islam, quoting the deceased's brother Izazul Islam.

"The muggers blocked his way at Khoksha on Gangni-Garadob Road and attempted to snatch the bag with money, while Khademul shouted for help. Locals in the area responded to Khademul's screams and rushed towards the spot.

"The hijackers shot Khademul and fled the scene as people nearby were approaching," said the OC.

Khademul was initially taken to Gangni Upazila Health Complex. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Kushtia Medical College Hospital, said OC Sajedul.

An drive was underway to nab the killers, added the police official.
