3 killed as pickup van plunges into ditch in Gazipur

Three people were killed as a pickup van fell into a ditch in Gazipur's Kaliganj upazila this morning.

The deceased have been identified as the van driver, his helper and a trader but their names could not be known immediately, said Mohammad Alauddin, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station.

The accident took place around 6:00am on Joydebpur-Itakhola road in ​​Kaliganj, the OC told The Daily Star around 11:00am.

The bodies were recovered and kept at the police station. Legal action will be taken if the victims' family members file complaint, the OC further said.

Sushanta Chandra Sarkar, a sub-inspector of Kaliganj Police Station, said that the driver lost control over the steering of the Joydebpur-bound pickup van from Narsingdi and the vehicle fell into a roadside ditch in Noapara Moisheer area.

The three people died on the spot, the SI said.
