PM to open Teesta bridge in July
Says state minister
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would inaugurate the Teesta Road Bridge on the river Teesta at Kawnia point in the district in next July.
“The prime minister will also lay down the foundation stone of Mohipur-Kakina Teesta Road Bridge (TRB-2) to connect Gangachara upazila of Rangpur with Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat soon,” said State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Motahar Hossain.
He said this at a public rally, arranged by Kakina union unit Awami League at Rudreshwar, after visiting the under construction Mohipur-Kakina connecting road of the bridge on Saturday.
Administrator of Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad Adv Motiar Rahman, Gangachara Upazila Parishad Chairman Majibar Rahman Pramanik, Kaliganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Nuruzzman and Aditmari Upazila Parishad Chairman Sirajul Islam also addressed.
Motahar said the long-cherished dream of a better life, livelihoods and existence of the people of greater Rangpur will come true side by side with improving the regional and national communications network with the commissioning of the bridge in July.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her 1996-2001 tenure laid down the foundation stone of the bridge and allocated fund to fulfill the demand of the people of greater Rangpur region.
