3 of a family hacked over land dispute
Alleged four cadres of outlawed party, Sorbohara, hacked three members of a family indiscriminately over land dispute at Islamgati village in Atrai upazila of Naogaon early Tuesday.
Newly-wed Shakila Begum, 22, her husband Sajedur Rahman, 25, and his mother-in-law Manjura Begum, 55, were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) with critical injuries.
Sajedur underwent surgery at RMCh where his condition is stated to be critical.
According to the victims and their relatives, Sorbohara cadre Emran, his brother Matiur Rahman, son Shariful Islam and Baker Hossain of the same village entered Sajedur's house at around 1:30am breaking open its door and hacked them indiscriminately.
Sajedur's sister Nazmun Nahar said their father Abdus Samad had a legal battle with Matiur and Emran as they allegedly grabbed most of his 60 bighas of land. But after his death, they stopped to move the cases and sent one of their two brothers abroad fearing such attack.
The victim family alleged that the attackers killed Abdus Samad by mixing poison to his food in 1991.
Abdul Latif Khan, officer-in-charge of Atrai Police Station, said they arrested Baker Hossain. The attack was made to evict the victims from the land, he added.
