Youth shot, another stabbed in city

Two persons were wounded critically in two separate attacks by miscreants in the city's Badda and Paltan yesterday. They are under treatment in Dhaka Medical College Hospital. In Badda, some local goons stabbed Helal Uddin, 30, owner of stone supplier farm Helal Enterprise, in the head and back and snatched about Tk 5 lakh from him around 4:00pm while he was going to Natun Bazar, Nesar Uddin, younger brother of the victim, said. He alleged that the goons were led by Delwar, president of Jubo Dal ward5 unit of Vatara union of Badda. Badda Police Station Officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman said Helal is general secretary of the same ward of Jubo Dal and the attackers were the men of Delwar. The incident was resulted from a previous rivalry between the two, he added. Meanwhile, Paltan police said an unknown miscreant shot Akram alias Mujahid, 35, a land broker, in the abdomen and right hand in a freak attack at Naya Paltan. Alamgir Hossain, a witness, said Mujahid and his attacker were talking at a lane of Naya Paltan around 11:00am. Suddenly, the attacker fired two shots at Mujahid and instantly ran away, he added. The reason behind the attack was not known. Maya Begum, younger sister of the victim, said Mujahid lives in Tongi board bazaar and was a drug addict a few months ago.
