Father, registrar jailed for child marriage
A mobile court sentenced the father of a teenage girl and a registrar to jail for their involvement in a child marriage in Lalmonirhat municipality on Thursday night.
Kazi Sharif Uddin, registrar (marriage) of the municipality, and Saidul Islam, father of the girl who was studying at class-IX, are to serve 15 and 7 days in prison respectively.
Lalmonirhat sadar police said Saidul Islam of Stadium Para village married off her underage daughter at his house Thursday night while Kazi Sharif Uddin registered it.
On information, Assistant Commissioner (AC-Land) Mohammad Alam Hossain led the mobile court and convicted the two. Police sent them to jail yesterday.
The family and relatives of the bridegroom covered up themselves during the drive.
