Relatives of Munif, Shamam demand fair investigation

Relatives of Sitab Jabi Munif and Shams Rahim Shamam, two of the six students killed by a mob of several hundred villagers at Aminbazar on the outskirts of the capital on Shab-e-Barat early Monday, have demanded a fair probe into the grisly incident. Body of Munif, 20, was brought to Dinajpur town from Dhaka by an ambulance yesterday morning. As the body arrived at Goneshtola area under Dinajpur town, a pale of gloom descended on the area. "We want a fair investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment to those involved in the killing," said locals who burst into tears. Later, the body was taken to Moklespur village under Biral upazila and buried at around 11.00am beside the grave of his father. Shams Rahim Shamam was buried at their family graveyard at Shanila village in Bera upazila of Pabna district on Monday night. The villagers at a condolence meeting on Galaxy kindergarten School premise of Sanila village yesterday demanded a fair investigation into the incident and punishment to the persons responsible for Shamam's death. Victim's father advocate Aminur Rahim, aunt Dr Rajia Akhter and former mayor of Bera municipality SM Amir Ali spoke, among others. Victim's father Aminur Rahim demanded a fair investigation into the incident. “Why was my son killed in this way? He was never involved in any crime. I want justice,” he said.
