BCL man held for assaulting teachers

An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Ishwardi Government College unit was arrested early yesterday in a case for assaulting the teachers of the college on July 4. The arrestee, Md Rony Hossain, 24, is one of the 15 accused in the case. Police arrested Rony at his uncle's residence at Pakshey at around 1:00am. In the afternoon, Rony was produced in a court that sent him to jail. Unruly BCL activist came to the principal room at around 2:00 pm on July 4 and asked him to give them the job of college development work. College sources said the lawmaker of Pabna-4 gave Tk 2 lakh for the development work recently. As the principal refused their proposal, they (BCL men) vandalised his office room and assaulted some teachers who tried to resist them. After the incident, Principal Dr Sirajul Islam filed a case against 15 BCL activists including Rony, Masud, Sajib, Sonnet, Robi Hearing the news of Rony's arrest, BCL activists staged a demonstration in front of the principal's room yesterday morning. They chanted slogans demanding release of Rony and withdrawal of the case filed against their men. Being informed, police rushed to the college, dispersed the BCL men and brought the situation under control.
