Main accused Ali Hossain shot dead

The bullet-riddled body of drug peddler Ali Hossain, prime accused in schoolboy Shuvo killing case, was found floating on the Buriganga River in South Keraniganj Saturday evening. Locals found the body floating on the river at Pangaon ghat at around 7:00pm and informed the police who could not ascertain immediately the reasons for the killing. As family members tried to take away Hossain's body in a rickshaw van, police intercepted them. Identifying Ali Hossain as a criminal, Nazrul Islam, sub-inspector of Fatullah Model Police Station, said he was also a drug peddler of Pagla area. Swadhin Ahmed Shuvo, 14, a class IX student of Pagla High School, was killed by a stray bullet during a gunfight between an anti-drug unit of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and Hossain and his cohorts at Fatullah in Narayanganj on the night of June 14. Shuvo's younger brother Shohag, 9, and Badal, 14, a class IX student of the school, also sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight. After the incident, Shuvo's mother, Rahima Begum filed a murder case while Sergeant Saiful Islam of Rab-10 filed a case for assault on them with Fatulla Police Station. District Police Superintendent Sheikh Nazmul Alam said police were looking for Ali Hossain, prime accused in Shuvo murder case. Since Hossain's body was found in South Keraniganj area, the police station concerned will try to unearth clues to the killing, the SP added.
