A staff member of Japan's national Riken institute opens a rack of the world's fastest supercomputer named the "K Computer" at Riken's laboratory in Kobe city in Hyogo prefecture, western Japan on June 21. The K Computer has become the fastest in the world, making calculations more than three times faster than a Chinese rival. The supercomputer has achieved 8.162 quadrillion calculations per second, or 8.162 petaflops in computer jargon, according to developers Fujitsu and Riken. Photo: AFP
