Port city dev to end soon
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Mohammad Manjur Alam said work for development of the port city related to the coming World Cup Cricket would be completed as early as possible. Renovation of car parks and roads have already begun and these works would be completed within a short time, he said while addressing as the chief guest a view exchange meeting on Sunday. Shariful Arefin Tutul, chairman of the local organising committee- formed to arrange the world cup matches, made the address of welcome at the meeting at the CCC auditorium. He discussed about different aspects of the Chittagong venue Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury Divisional Stadium and the incoming world cup matches. The mayor sought cooperation from all to arrange the matches in a smooth way. He was addressing as the chief guest a meeting marking the 4th founding anniversary of the party at Muslim Institute Hall on Monday. “Price hike of gas, electricity and other essentials have become common phenomena at present. Crime, stalking, extortion and grabbing are increasing day by day making public life awful,'' Oli said. People would start raising voice against such public sufferings if the government fails to mitigate these immediately, he said. Speakers said the beneficiaries of November 7 in 1975 were responsible for hanging the hero of the revolution, Colonel Taher.They were addressing a press conference organised by Shipahi-Janata Sanghati Dibash Udjapan Parishad at Chittagong Press Club on Monday. Parishad General Secretary and former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (JSD) Mohammed Ferdous Chowdhury read out the written statement at the conference He said former pro JSD BCL leaders who participated in the War of Liberation still have the faith in social revolution which was dreamt by Col Taher. They said they have united again after a long absence in political arena because they think that the country is endangered by the activities of fundamentalist forces and their cohorts who are trying to foil ongoing trial of crimes against humanity. “This is why we want to form a unified front against fundamentalism, communalism and terrorism,” he said. He urged all to participate in a rally to be held on November 10 to mark the Shipahi Janatar Biplab Dibash. He demanded trial of Taher killing and release of the documents related to the murder. A number of former BCL leaders including Golum Zilani Chowdhury, Prof Dilip Kanti Das, Sirajul Islam Raju, Imtiaj Uddin Ahmed Pasha, Dewan Maksud Ahmed and Nurul Arshad Chowdhury were present at the conference. Bangladesh Railway launched a new train service named Chattala Express between Dhaka-Chittagong on Monday to end sufferings of passengers on the busy route. Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Jute and Textile Akhter-uj-Zaman Chowdhury Babu inaugurated the train service at a ceremony at Chittagong Railway Station. Launching the train service Babu said government is pledge-bound to develop railway. At present railway is facing huge pressure of passenger due to acute gridlock on Dhaka-Chittagong highway, he said, adding that considering all the matters, the government has decided to launch the new service.” He said within a very short time government is going to establish separate ministry for the railway. “We believe it will be a turning point for Bangladesh Railway,” he said. Mentionable, Chattala Express will depart from Chittagong station at 9:25am everyday and reach Dhaka at 4:00pm. Railway fixed the fare Tk 495 for AC coach, Tk 290 for first class and Tk 105 for Shulav class. It will stop in five stations at Feni, Lakhsam, Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Bhairab and Airport station. A Japanese IT Company CCK Network on Monday sent seven Bangladeshi trainees to their Manila branch for six months' training on data encoding and processing. The company will also train and recruit 100 Bangladeshis as management trainee in several phases before launching it's branch in Chittagong by December, said General Manager of Masatoshi Saito while addressing a “Union party” celebrating the cooperation between Chittagong Chamber Commerce of Industries (CCCI) and CCK Network, Japan at Hotel Agrabad in the port city on Saturday. The trainees signed papers of agreement with the company on the programme, said the organisers. Masatoshi Saito said they selected the seven trainees, out of 500 candidates, after written test and the interview was conducted by the company in cooperation with CCCI. The company will invest Tk 3 crore initially and launch in December this year in Chittagong. The selected trainees are Mirza Shahidul, Alpana Nahar, Jahanara Rahman, Hasan Anwarul Kabir, Razia Sultana, Karabi Ghosh and Lutfun Nesa Shantanu.
