At least 29 shops were gutted and seven people injured in separate incidents of fire in Chandpur, Narsingdi and Sylhet districts yesterday and the day before. In Chandpur, fire destroyed at least 14 shops at Grihakalindia Bazar under Faridganj upazila of the district yesterday morning, according to a correspondent. Locals said the fire originated from a tea stall owned by one Monu Mia at around 10:00am and soon engulfed the adjacent 13 shops. Fire fighters from Chandpur rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control at around 11:00am. At least seven people were injured while trying to extinguished the blaze. The injured, Babu Khan, 25, Bappi, 28, Rajon, 27, Sohel, 30, Zahirul, 26, and Babu, 29, were given first aid at the local hospital. In Narsingdi, six cloth stores were gutted in a fire at Shekherchar bazar on Monday morning. Witnesses said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a cloth store owned by one Imran at around 7:00am and soon engulfed the adjacent shops, reports a correspondent. On information, two fire fighting units from Sadar and Madhabdi rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze with the help of local people after an hour of hectic efforts. UNB adds: Fire gutted nine shops at a bazar in Goainghat upazila headquarters at midnight. Fire service sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop in the bazar and soon engulfed the eight other adjacent shops. On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the flame with the help of local people after two hours of frantic efforts.
