BCL-Moitree clash leaves 10 injured
Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Chhatra Moitree clashed at Rajshahi New Degree Government College yesterday, leaving 10 people from both sides injured.
Police arrested BCL activist Mahi Elahi and Moitree activists Mofidul Islam Pias and Sarwar Hossain Ripon on the spot.
BCL activist Kamal and Moitree man Anik, both first year students of humanities group, locked in a quarrel at around 11:30am claiming their cordial relationship with a girl student of the college.
At one stage, Kamal along with outsider BCL colleague Maruf started beating Anik, police said.
Clash erupted minutes later when Moitree men rushed to the campus to rescue Anik. As BCL men attacked moitree activists, they retaliated.
Both sides used lethal weapons and chased each other during the clash. Being informed, police rushed to spot and brought the situation under control by dispersing the feuding groups.
Of the injured, Maruf, Kamal and Anik were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital but they went away without taking release from the hospital.
No complaint was filed with Rajpara Police Station in connection with the incident as of filing of this report as 5:00pm yesterday.a
