Teachers oppose 'illegal' move to appoint headmaster
Teachers of Khagrachhari Municipal Model High School have demanded cancellation of the school authorities' 'illegal' initiative to appoint a headmaster who does not have required qualifications.
"Defying government rules, chairman of the school managing committee Madhu Mongal Chakma has completed procedure to appoint Nobo Kumar Chakma as headmaster," Amarendra Chakma, a teacher of the school, said in his written statement on behalf of the teachers in a press briefing at Khagrachhari Press Club yesterday.
"Nobo Kumar Chakma does not have any teachers' registration ID or enrolment under Monthly Payment Order (MPO). As per government rules, he is not eligible for appointment at any MPO-listed school,” he said.
He alleged bribery behind the initiative to appoint Nobo Kumar as headmaster.
Amarendra Chakma announced that teachers will observe daily one-hour abstention from classes from October 8 if their demand is not met by next 72 hours.
They will submit memo to Deputy Commissioner on October 8, meet with guardians and Teachers Association Leaders on October 9 and meet with local lawmaker and other local government representatives on October 10 as part of continued agitation, he said.
Seven of the nine teachers of the school attended the press conference.
They are Amarendra Chakma, Pranjol Kanti Chakma (teachers' representative in school managing committee), Md Mahbubul Hoque, Devashish Khisha, Sumoty Chakma, Rupayon Talukder and Jamal Uddin.
