BM College students protest fee hike, clash with police

Police clashed with agitated students of Barisal Government Brojo Mohon College after they held rally and laid siege to administrative building demanding cancellation of examination fee hike yesterday morning. They also burnt the effigy of the vice chancellor of National University. As police entered the campus and tried to disburse the agitated students and chased them, students engaged in clash with police using brickbats. Teachers and student leaders brought the situation under control asking police to leave the campus. Principal Dr Nani Gopal Das expressing his solidarity with the demands of the students saying they have no authority to reduce the fee hike fixed by National University. Nasiruddin, head assistant of Barisal B M College office section, said within last three years special examination fees increased from Tk100 to 10,000, registration fees from Tk 50 to 450, late fees from Tk10 to 1,000, mark sheet fees from Tk25 to Tk250, college transfer fees from Tk 125 to 750, improvement fees from Tk130 to 500 per subject fee from Tk130 to 150,viva fee from Tk130 to 150 etc. The principal, acknowledging the facts said there was no representative from large institutions like Barisal B M College or Khulna B L College in the academic council of National University.
