Dowry-greedy husband kills wife in Satkhira

A dowry-greedy husband allegedly beat her wife dead at Chupria village in Satkhira Sadar upazila on Friday. The victim was identified as Halima Khatun, 24, wife of Mintu Hossain of the village. Police quoted locals as saying that Mintu, son of Abdur Rashid, married Halima, daughter of Abdus Sabur of Jugbaria village under Sadar upazila, six years ago. Since the marriage, Mintu had been putting pressure on Halima's parents for dowry. On the day of incident, Mintu asked Halima to go to her father's house to bring some money as dowry. As Halima refused to oblige, Mintu beat her severely, resulting in her death on the spot. The killer husband immediately left the scene, leaving his wife's body on the verandah. Being informed, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Satkhira Hospital morgue for autopsy, hospital sources said. A case was filed with Sadar Police Station the same day. Police are looking for Mintu. UNB adds: A housewife was murdered by unidentified criminals at West Alonia village in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur district early Friday. The deceased was identified as Kitabernesa, wife of Babul Miah. Police quoting locals said a gang of 4-5 criminals entered the house of Babul Miah in his absence at around 2:00am and tied up his two sons and two daughters. The gang hit Kitabernesa with sharp weapons, leaving her critically injured. Hearing screams, Neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued Kitabernesa . She was first admitted to the upazila health complex and later died on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
