'Coordinated efforts vital to fight diseases'
With emergence of diseases indicates inter-relation between human and animal health. So, it has become imperative to determine coordinated working policy by different professionals for proper implementation of diseases resistance and controlling programme. Minister for Primary and Mass Education Dr Afsarul Ameen said this while he was addressing as the chief guest the concluding ceremony of a three-day scientific conference at a local hotel in the port city on Saturday. Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASU) organised the 8th Annual Scientific Seminar titled “Networking for promoting change towards one world, one health. Presentation of research papers on newly emerged diseases like anthrax, avian influenza and swine flue at the seminar would help resist and control different diseases, Afsarul Ameen said. He said the government would consider the recommendations made at the seminar to check and fight these diseases. The minister also emphasised untied efforts by different professionals including physicians, veterinarians, environmentalists, sociologist, scientists and researchers in this regard. CCC lottery for awarding tender held
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) held a lottery of tenders for development works among the bidders who quoted the same price here on Tuesday. The lottery held on the Darbar Hall premises of newly opened Swadhinata Complex at Chandgaon since many of the bidders quoted the same price in the tenders CCC floated for 241 development projects. A toal of 4373 bidders participated in the tenders for the projects to be implemented at an estimated cost of Tk 50 crore. The projects included preparation of Chittagong Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury Divisional Stadium as the venue of upcoming World Cup Cricket 2011. The lottery was held under the supervision of Mayor Manjur Alam while CCC Panel Mayors Mohammad Hossain, Zubaira Nargis Khan and Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Hasnee, councillors and bidders were present. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Foyez Ahmad said all necessary steps, including security measures, would be taken to celebrate Durga Puja amid festive and peaceful atmosphere. He was addressing a coordinating meeting with Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad Chittagong unit, government officials and law enforcement agencies on Monday. Foyez said a good number of magistrates would be deployed at every upazilas to monitor and maintain law and order situation during the four-day religious festival. Moreover, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), Ansar and VDP would be deployed along with police force in this regard, he said, adding that additional deputy commissioners would also monitor the Puja celebration. Speakers emphasised arranging proper training for the small investors to increase skill on capital market. They urged the brokerage houses to come forward with initiatives in this regard. They were addressing a workshop on 'Investment in capital market' at a local market on Saturday. Island Securities Limited, a local brokerage house, organised the workshop for small investors. Founding Member of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) Mohammad Mohiuddin was the chief guest at the workshop. Speakers said small investors face problems and sometimes incur losses due to lack of proper knowledge on capital market. Director General (DG) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Shah Munir Hossain assured the authorities concerned of all out cooperation for the development of Chittagong Maa O Shishu Hospital Medical College. The assurance came during the visit of the DG at the hospital on Thursday. Dr Munir at a view exchange meeting with doctors, officials and staffs the hospital assured of providing support to launch MD Paediatric course at the college. He visited different wards and departments of the hospital and the college including outdoor, child health, Obs and gynaecology, neonatology and medicine. He expressed satisfaction over the service provided by the hospital.
