One jailed for 10 yrs for murder
One person was yesterday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for killing a man in Gomostapur upazila of the district in 2004.
The convict is Sirajul Islam, 36, son of Abu Bakar of Berampara village under Chowdala union of the upazila.
Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court fined the convict Tk 10,000, in default, he is to suffer another year in jail.
According to the prosecution, Sirajul killed his neighbour Sultan Ali, 35, son Ramzan Ali, on November 3, 2004.
Following a case filed by the victim's family the same day, Gomostapur police arrested Sirajul.
Sub-Inspector Abdul Hoque, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet on December 31.
After examining evidence and 17 witnesses, Judge Arup Kumar Goswami handed down the verdict.
