'Irregularities' in Making Teachers' List for Upgrading
Kuta demands removal of registrar
Khulna University Teachers' Association (KUTA) has placed a six-point demand including removal of the registrar, legal action against outsiders who recently vandalised the vice chancellor's office and dismissal of former pro-vice chancellor Dr Purnendu Chandra Gain from the post of professor.
KUTA submitted a memorandum to Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Saifuddin Shah at 5:30pm on Monday, giving an ultimatum to meet the demand by October 3.
Earlier in a meeting held on Sunday with association General Secretary ARM Mostafizur Rahman in the chair, KUTA adopted a resolution in this regard.
The KUTA will throw a programme of movement in its next executive committee meeting to be held on October 11 if their demand is not met within the deadline, said Prof Mostafizur Rahman.
The six-point demand includes removal of the university registrar for 'committing irregularities' in the process of making upgradation list of teachers.
The KUTA also demanded immediate legal action against outsiders who were involved in the recent acts of vandalism that caused extensive damage to the office of vice chancellor (VC).
One of the six-point demand is dismissal of former pro-vice chancellor Dr Purnendu Chandra Gain from the post of professor of the university and appointment of a new pro-vice chancellor on seniority basis.
KUTA has also demanded cancellation of notifications issued so far regarding irregular appointments of officials and employees.
It has been stated in the memorandum of KUTA that 42 officials and employees were appointed on ad hoc basis on September 1 without issuing any notification as per rule.
The office of the vice chancellor was vandalised on September 2 in a clash that took place on the campus between non-student ruling party men and some officials loyal to the VC as appointments of these 42 officials and employees were called in question.
Dr Purnendu Chandra Gain was relieved of the post of pro-vice chancellor of the university with effect from September 14 upon order issued by the chancellor of the university. He is a professor of agro-technology department of the university.
When contacted, president of KUTA Prof AK Fazlul Haque said that he did not attend Sunday's meeting of KUTA executive committee and therefore is not aware of the contents of resolution adopted there regarding demands.
KUTA General Secretary Mustafizur Rahman said that the association is now determined to realise the demands as stated in the memorandum although the VC has appealed to members of the association to have patience in this regard.
Denying the allegation of irregularities in making upgradation list, Registrar Prof Abdullah-el-Baki said that he had simply carried out order of the VC in this regard.
