4 boys face abduction charge, one arrested
Four 10 to 12 year-old boys of Dinajpur Sadar upazila were made accused in the case for abducting a seven-year-old boy, while police arrested one of the accused after the abducted boy's father handed him over to police yesterday.
Dilip Chandra Roy, 11, son of Rohindra Roy of Kaogaon village under Dinajpur Sadar upazila, and his 'three aides' Sajib, 11, Manik, 12, and Biplop, 10, are accused in the abduction case filed with Dinajpur Police Station yesterday morning.
Father of seven-year-old Md Mehdi Hasan Raihan, Md Minu Mia of Munshipara village under Dinajpur Sadar upazila, and his relatives went to the police station along with Dilip Chandra Roy, 11, the alleged mastermind of kidnapping Mehdi, and filed the case.
According to the case statement, Minu Mia and his relatives on Monday afternoon caught Dilip from Munshipara of Dinajpur town and after interrogation by the locals the boy admitted that he abducted Raihan on Saturday morning and took him to Md Abdul Kasem of Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur.
Raihan went missing on September 25 morning from Zabed Traders at Munshipara of Dinajpur town and his father Minu Mia filed a general diary with Dinajpur Police Station the same day, it said.
Three adult people were also involved in the abduction, the complainant said.
Raihan's family members said that Dilip used to play with the seven-year-old boy and occasionally snatched away money from him.
"It seems odd that a seven-year-old boy should have money," said a police official pleading anonymity.
Sub Inspector of Dinajpur Police Station Md Mamun, also investigation officer of the case, said during interrogation Dilip told the police that he abducted Raihan from Munshipara on Saturday morning.
Police said they conducted raid at different places following statements of the arrested boy but the missing boy could not be rescued as of filing this report.
Police quoted Raihan's family members as saying that no one has yet claimed any ransom for the boy.
Police produced Dilip before a court that sent him to jail, police said.
Dilip's father Rohindra Roy, a day labourer of Kaogaon village under Dinajpur Sadar upazila, claimed that his son is innocent.
