53 shops gutted in 3 dists damaging Tk 2.6cr property
At least 53 shops were gutted in Narsingdi, Bhola and Comilla districts damaging property worth 2.60 crore yesterday and the day before.
At least 40 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Raipura bazaar in Raipura upazila headquarters of Narsingdi early yesterday, reports UNB.
Fire Service sources said, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at about 2am at a shop in the bazaar and soon engulfed the adjacent 39 shops.
On information, two fire fighting units from Sadar town and Bhairab rushed to the spot and doused the flame with the help of local people in three hours of hectic efforts.
The affected shop owners claimed that cash and valuables worth Tk 2 crore were gutted in the blaze.
Another report from Bhola adds: A fierce fire gutted at least 12 shops at Paranganj bazaar in Sadar upazila on Sunday night.
Fire service sources said, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at about 11:45pm at a shop in the bazaar and soon engulfed the adjacent 11 shops.
On information fire fighters from the district town rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze with the help of local people.
The affected shops owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 30 lakh.
In Comilla, a fierce fire that broke out at a shop at Munshirhat Bazaar in Chouddagram upazila early Sunday gutted goods worth Tk 40 lakh.
Fire brigade sources and locals said the fire broke out at the hardware shop of M/s Mazumder Traders late at night. But they could not ascertain the reason behind the blaze.
On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the flame with the help of local people. But the fire in the meantime already gutted the entire shop.
Shop owner Salauddin alleged that his rivals following a previous enmity set his shop on fire. He claimed that goods and valuables worth Tk 40 lakh were gutted in the blaze.
