Extortionists stab 3 students
Extortionists stabbed three students of Barisal Polytechnic Institute at Nabogram Road in the city early yesterday.
The injured are Abdur Rahim, 22, fourth semester student of computer technology, and Munir, 20, and Masud Rana alias Kawsar, 22, fourth semester students of civil engineering.
They are undergoing treatment at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. They came under attack while returning to their mess at Nabogram Road from Oxford Mission Road crossing at around 12:30am.
Sources said the three students went to Harun's tea stall at Oxford Mission Road crossing at around 11:45pm to take tea. While they were returning to their mess at Nabogram Road, a gang stabbed them.
The injured students alleged that a gang led by local ruling party cadres Jewel, Milon and Amin asked them to give money. "As we refused to oblige, they stabbed us and left the scene," they alleged.
Mir Mosharraf Hossain, principal of the institute, said he heard about the incident and was verifying the identity of the victims as it (incident) happened outside the campus at midnight.
No case was lodged with Kotwali Police Station in connection with the incident as of filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday.
