Jubo Dal activists held on rape charge
A schoolgirl was abducted and raped by a gang of six at Namuri village under Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Sunday night.
Police rescued the girl, raiding the village early yesterday and arrested two of the gang while the rest four managed to flee.
The arrestees are former president of Jubo Dal Namuri Union unit Habibur Rahman Liton, 32, and Jubo Dal activist Mohammad Alim, 34.
Police said the victim, a class seven student of Chaparhat High School, was going to her uncle's residence at Aditmari upazila headquarters in a rickshaw along with her cousin, also a class ten student of the school, on Sunday night.
When they reached Namuri village, the gang waylaid them, beat up the victim's cousin and the rickshaw-puller. They took her to a house at the village and raped her.
As the two sought help of the villagers, they informed Aditmari police of the matter. Police raided the village early yesterday and rescued the girl from a house. They also arrested the Jubo Dal men on the spot while the rest four, including an auto-richshaw driver, managed to flee.
Namuri Union Parishad Chairman Nuruzzaman took the schoolgirl into his custody and informed her family members who reached the village yesterday noon. The UP chairman handed over the girl to her family in presence of police.
Victim's family yesterday filed a case with Aditmari Police Station against six people including the arrested Jubo Dal men Habib and Alim. Police drive is going on to arrest the rest four.
