Four teenage girls commit 'suicide'

Four teenage girls allegedly committed suicide in Lalmonirhat, Joypurhat, Panchagarh and Thakurgaon districts yesterday, Friday and on Tuesday last. In Lalmonirhat, a schoolgirl allegedly took insecticide medicine in her room at Foringer Dighi village under Sadar upazila yesterday. The girl committed suicide as her private teacher rejected her love offer, family members and locals said. The victim was identified as Manowara Begum, 15, daughter of Mofizul Islam of the village and a student of class ten in Lohakhuchi High School. In Jaypurhat, a teenage girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Dogasi village in Sadar upazila Friday noon, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Shapla Begum, 18, daughter of Akter Hossain of the same village. Sadar police station OC Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal said Shapla Begum was married to Afzal Hossain, 40, a farmer of village Danshra in Khetlal upazila against her will about a year ago. Shapla returned to her parent's house after a few days of her marriage and refused to go back to her husband's house. Police said, as her parents took a decision to send her back to her husband's house on Friday, she became very shocked and committed suicide by hanging herself from the beam of her room at about noon. Our Thakurgaon correspondent reports: Two teenage girls allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday last in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon. A domestic help killed herself at Razardighi village under Boda upazila in Panchagarh. The victim was identified as Rita, 15, hailing from Lalbag area in Dinajpur Sadar. She was working at Altaf Hossain Swapon's house in the village. Quoting members of Altaf Hossain's house Sub-Inspector of Boda police station Harun Ur Rashid and local sources said she went to sleep after meals at night. In the morning at about 8:00am Swapon's mother saw her dead. In another incident, a schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide at Kachubari village under Sadar upazila in Thakurgaon. Deceased Parboti Rani, 13, was daughter of Narayan Barman of the same village and student of class-VII of Kachubari High School. Police and family sources said Parboti committed suicide by hanging herself from a beam in her room at about 8:00am. Fallowing her silence for long time family members broke open the door and found her hanging from a beam. On information, police went to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Reason behind the suicide could not be known immediately.
