20 shops gutted in three districts
At least 20 shops were gutted in three incidents of fire in Noakhali, Naogaon and Faridpur districts yesterday and the day before.
At least 12 shops were gutted in a fire at a kitchen market in Golbaria area under Choumohoni police station of the district early yesterday, reports a correspondent.
Locals said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at Madina Store, a grocery shop of the kitchen market at around 5:00am and soon engulfed other eleven adjacent shops.
The affected shop owners of the market claimed that the fire damaged goods worth about Tk 50 lakh.
In Naogaon, three shops were gutted in a fire at Pajorbhanga Bazaar in Manda upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit at the shop of Akbar Ali in Dijen Market at about 11pm and soon engulfed the two adjacent shops.
The affected shop owners claimed that fire damaged goods worth about Tk 14 lakh.
In Faridpur, at least 5 shops were gutted at Titumir Market in the town early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The fire broke out at around 4am due to an electric short circuit, said a shop owner.
The damaged shops are MSR Monosha Pharmacy, Datta Biponi, New Datta Biponi, Rupali Shoes and New Rupali Shoes.
The fire was doused by four Fire Service units from Faridpur and Rajbari.
It damaged property worth Tk 50 lakh, claimed the affected shop owners.
In Manikganj, fire at Rising Spinning Mill at Noyadingi under Saturia upazila gutted a huge quantity of cotton on Thursday, reports our correspondent.
General Manager of the Mill Polash Ahmed said the fire might have damaged goods worth over one crore taka. About 30,000 kilograms of cotton at the mill's godown were gutted, he claimed.
