Abducted student freed in Kushtia

Police yesterday rescued a college student after three days of his abduction by outlaws while a businessman of Natore abducted from Daulatpur in the district on Thursday remained untraced. Police arrested three people including a journalist for their alleged involvement in the abduction of the college student. According to police, cadres of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML) faction Janajuddho abducted college student Rakibul Hasan from Majampur Rail Gate area on Tuesday. The outlaws picked up Rabkibul into a microbus when he was returning to his residence in upazila parishad area from the town at about 4:30pm. Son of Rafiqul Hasan, Rakibul was a honours first year student at Kushtia Government College. The gang demanded Tk. 20 lakh ransom from Rafiqul, a motor parts trader in the town for his son's freedom. But Rafiqul informed the matter to police. According to Assistant Police Super (ASP-circle) Kushtia Chokdar Abdul Halim, on a tip-off that the abductors confined Rakibul to a house in Khalishakundi area in Daulatpur upazila, several police teams from Kushtia and Daulatpur raided the area on Friday night. At this the abductors freed Rakibul in the morning. A police team rescued Rakibul from Khalishakundi-Gangni highway at about 7.30: am, ASP Halim said. Police also arrested three people for alleged link with the abduction, he added. Meanwhile, police are yet to rescue businessman Bakkar Ali who was abducted on Thursday night. The incident took place at Jamalpur village in Daulatpur upazila and the criminals demanded Tk 3 lakh ransom for his freedom. According to police, Bakkar Ali Munshi, 35, son of Boyen Munshi of Halsha village in Sadar upazila of Natore came to a relative's house at Jamalpur on Wednesday. A gang of criminals picked up Bakkar at gun point from a street at the village at about 9:30pm on Thursday. Later, the gang demanded Tk. 3 lakh from Bakkar's wife in Natore over phone. Bakkar's wife Roksana rushed to Jamalpur village on Friday evening and filed a GD with Daulatpur police station.
